RULES

Every year we welcome all of our Certificate Holders, Playing Members, and Employees to challenge their golf skills through friendly competition in our Club Championship Tournament!

In Match Play, the game is played by holes. A hole is won by the player which holes their ball in the fewest amount of strokes. The reckoning of holes is kept by the terms: so many holes up or all square, and so many to play. A player may concede a hole or a match at any time prior to the conclusion of the hole or the match. Concession of a stroke, hole, or match may not be declined or withdrawn. This is a bracket-style, single elimination tournament.

Time frames and match pairings for each round will be posted in the clubhouse and emailed. In each round, you must arrange to play your matches on or before the date stated. Any matches not completed in the time frame posted will result in a double forfeit. The finals will be held Sunday, August 13 starting at 9:00 AM.

  • The Championship Division will play from the Black Tee Markers with no handicap involved.
  • The Handicap Division will play from the Blue Tee Markers with handicaps playing off the lower of the two handicaps — using 75% of established handicaps.
  • The Senior Division (60-70 years) will play from the White Tee Markers — using 75% of established handicaps.
  • The Super Senior Division (71+ years) will play from the Gold Tee Markers â€” using 75% of established handicaps.

The Divisions playing with handicaps require an established handicap; IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY ON THE ACTIVE GAM GHIN HANDICAP LIST, ONE WILL BE ESTABLISHED FOR YOU FOR $39 (using your club credit if applicable, or charged to your club account)By signing-up in to play these Divisions, you are accepting these terms. An email will be sent from GHIN letting players know the login info for their account profile; this will allow you to post scores from any course from your phone or computer, and keep up with your handicap all season long!

2023 Joe Foster Open — FINAL RESULTS

Our 2023 Oceana Best Ball “Joe Foster” Open Champions are Jordan Durga and CJ Griffin with a two-day total of 132 (66 both days).

2023 Champions

Placing first in the remaining flights: FIRST Corey Parmalee/Shawn Pranger 140; SECOND John Szegda/Derek Jacobson 147; THIRD Taylor Moore/Ryan Magerowski 151; FOURTH Jeff Hentschel/John Weaver 159.

SUMMARY

Entering day one of the 50th edition of the “Joe Foster Open,” Oceana Golf Club was primed with perfect scoring conditions as the course had not seen even a trace of rain for several weeks making it play fast and susceptible to teams going low.

But, like most years, Old Man Par “Not Joe” has shown his grit by reminding players from all over the country what OGC is all about — the greens. With yielding only 8 eagles to the field of 116 two-person teams, the scores were a touch higher than average making for some very competitive flights. The team of Jason Pranger and Mike Bryce posted an early 65 with a stellar 29 on their second nine to finish in a tie with the defending champions, Ryan and Robert Oosting, who made 9 birdies and 1 bogey in route their afternoon 65. Sitting one shot out at 66 is the 2016 champions, Eric Ruthkoski and Jacob Polayni, who also knocked in the lone first day skin with their eagle (3) on hole #1. Two former team champions in the field both shot 71 to lead the First Flight march (2013 Erik Sanford and Dave Wojcicki, and 2014 Corey Parmalee and Shawn Pranger).

Day two was a different story altogether as the rain with a north wind and drop in temperatures caused OGC to go from perfect scoring conditions to at times survival mode for some. The trend was scores posted were going to be higher than round one. Round one co-leader Pranger and Bryce posted an early 72 to find themselves at best in second place with the 66+66=132 from OGC Club Champion Jordan Durga and his partner CJ Griffin already in. Several other teams had life still, including the other co-leaders still on the course, but it was not to be as the Oosting brothers struggled to gain much traction in the cool windy afternoon and finished Sunday at 72 for a two day total of 137 good for 4th place.

Oceana Golf Club would like to congratulate all the participants and a special thank you to all the volunteers. The Joe Foster family was on the starters box both days welcoming all the players and sharing stories and plans for the Joe Foster Junior Golf Foundation. Great things for the Area Junior Golfers coming very soon.
